Brotherhood in Death takes you back to the roots of this fantastic series. Somewhat
And the gushing will now begin. Brotherhood in Death takes you back to the roots of this fantastic series. Somewhat, I should say. How about partially grown roots? What I liked: I loved everything about Brotherhood in Death and I’m not sucking up. The last full length book in this series, Devoted in Death, was one of my least favorites and I was wondering had Ms Robb hit the wall with what she could do with the In Death series. Not to worry fans, this book has all the gut wrenching components, the snarky dialogue, the character relationships we’ve all fallen in love with and of course, there is Roarke. How can a book featuring Dennis Mira be bad? The answer, it can’t. All of Eve’s feelings for the gentle, caring, wonderful man are front and center in this novel. In addition, Ms Robb provides more of Mr. Mira’s backstory and I devoured every little word and emotion. The story deals with some pretty gruesome murders of well to do gentlemen who are all known to Mr. Mira. The first death, in fact, is his cousin. Believe me, that’s not a spoiler. Who should Dr. and Mr. Mira trust to solve the case, why, of course they turn to their pseudo daughter, Eve or Lt Dallas, if you will. Watching Eve interact with the Miras and most especially Dennis just clenches your heart. She’s always felt just a bit in love with him and it shows in every scene they are together. The murders do push all of Eve’s buttons and Roarke and Peabody have her back. Some of the best scenes in Brotherhood in Death are between Eve and Peabody. As a matter of fact, they were laugh out loud funny and my reader’s heart just soared with delight reading Ms Robb’s words. There are conversations about dollhouses, crazy scary dolls and penises. Yup, blame it on the penis. You’ll have to read the book to further explain that reference but it is downright hilarious. Then there’s the tugs on your heartstrings, but justice must prevail, even if the murdered were sick SOBs and basically deserve everything they get and then some. Eve’s point of view is eye opening in so many ways as she had lived through even worse in her young life.Ms Robb’s writing is tight, exciting, and the plots and characters are so well developed at this point, it’s poetry. I continually look back at how the characters have grown over the years and am just in awe of her talent. What I didn’t like: Absolutely nothing, ha!Reading Brotherhood in Death and discussing it with my best friend more than confirmed our fandom of Ms Robb. It feels like she’s just getting started all over again with this unique, fantasy series. We spent one afternoon just hitting on the snarky, hilarious scenes spread throughout the book.I have this complete series in hardcover and also some on my Kindle and in audio. For Brotherhood in Death, I bought the hardcover, the Kindle edition, and also used an audible credit for narration. If you are a fan of this series, you definitely need to try at least one or two on audible. Ms Susan Ericksen does a bang up job and her voice for Roarke, mmmm. I listened and read along. It was fantastic. There are two very exciting highlights to my reading year; February and September, when Ms Robb releases her In Death books! I have many favorites but none that I’ve re-read so many times. Think of it, this series in on book 42 full length novels and many shorts/novellas and I have re-read it 7 times. SEVEN TIMES! That says it all for me.Highest of Recommendations (You absolutely will not enjoy this series unless you start with book one, Naked in Death).

THIS ONES A LITTLE DARKER THAN MOST. BUT STILL A GREAT READ
As with every one of J.D. ROBBs "in death " series, I have read them all and will continue to read all of them as they come out.BROTHERHOOD IN DEATH,Eve faces her demons when she finds wealthy & influential men hung, beaten, sodomized and then killed. It gets personal for Eve , very very personal. Mr.Mira as she calls him is related to one of the victims.Eve stands for all victims and will always stand with the victim but this time she's having trouble standing for the dead men. (read and find out why)This Eve Dallas takes a dark turn. It disturbed even me. It is so intense with the emotions of Eve & other characters. This one will stand out among her many stories. This does not detract from the fact that JD ROBB has continued & will continue (I hope) to bring Eve, Roarke & Eve's friends & fellow officers in print.Even after reading forty two of Robbs in death series i still crave more. The author draws the reader into her stories whether they discuss issues that are dark like BROTHERHOOD IN DEATH or whether we get to listen to Peabody talk about McNabbs sexy ass, we want to read more. Robb has more to write and Eva Dallas has more to say & do.

Love the extra scenes with Dennis Mira
I feel in love with the In Death series and all of it's characters a long time ago. I love that Eve is a strong, confident and complicated lead character. Her and Roarke's painful childhood's make them really interesting. J.D Robb fully intended for all of us to fall in love with Dennis Mira along with Eve. I love that this book focused a lot on him so we could see more of him. This is also the first book I've actually cried while reading. Dennis is such a darling person!I would say at this point in the series, it's starting to lose it's standalone quality. After something like 40 books, I think that can be expected. You could still read it as a standalone, but you'll miss some of the details and a lot of character development.I will continue reading the In Death series as long as they keep coming out. I love all the characters and the murder mystery is always a good one, with intense paces and interesting bad guys. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys murder mystery novels. With so many books in the series, it's an investment of time, but one that's well worth it.

New life has entered this long-running series!!
Wow. Wow. J. D. Robb has really hit her second wind with this latest "In Death" novel. I have always loved the series, but must admit in recent years they were beginning to be just a tad formulaic. I had been wanting to see some further character development in Eve and, boy, oh, boy! Do you ever get it in this one! It makes sense, with all the growth Eve has done in the series as pertains to her knowledge of her past that it would impact her in other ways. No spoilers here, but let it suffice to say that I greatly enjoyed seeing some cracks in Eve's emotional armor and it makes perfect, logical sense, that it would come out through her feelings of admiration for Dennis Mira. Some may complain that she isn't the same. But that's not true. All the strength Eve has always had is there but the unnecessary crudity (frequently used as a defense but becoming a bit formulaic) is not there so much as a new growth in Eve. She comes across as stronger than ever and yet more relatable. She still has her hot buttons and does get into a fight with Roarke, but overall her character experiences real growth in this novel and I, for one, am very pleased to see it.
