Pre-drill your screws!!
I have an old 1970s Craftsman II Ride N' Mulch mower and the teeth wore off on the sector assembly, so I could only turn the wheels in 1 direction, as the gears would slip in the other. I bought this to replace the part that had the teeth worn down. It's basically an exact replica of what came off the old mower. But the most important thing you should know before putting this thing on, is to PRE-DRILL YOUR SCREWS INTO THE NEW PIECE. Once you take the old part off your mower, take the screws and pre-drill them into the new part so that you create threading on the metal of the new part. I did not do this and spent nigh near an hour and a half hand cranking the screw manually into the new part while it was already attached. There's no way to get a power drill up and underneath the front end where the screws fit. "Well why didn't you take the piece off and do it, then put it back on?" you might ask. Because this piece has to fit up underneath the front end of your mower, slide over a metal clip that is sticking out, while at the same time aligning with the gears on the steering wheel shaft on the mower. It was a bear to get it aligned properly and up and over that metal clip, so I really didn't want to take it back off and try again. So I'm telling you now, PRE-DRILL THE SCREWS INTO THE HOLES OF THE NEW PIECE before you attempt to assemble. It will make it so much easier. I ended up only putting 3 out of the 4 screws back on, because 2 were easy and accessible with a power drill, and the other 2 were not. After spending an hour and a half on 1 screw, I decided against attempting the second one.I've attached pictures of the new part along with the old part, just in case you want a comparison to see if your mower part looks the same. I've also attached a picture of my beauty of a mower. She turns like a dream now with this new part. I had always wondered why it was so hard to turn the steering wheel. Now I know - the old version of this part was so worn out that it was making it tough to turn, and finally impossible to turn. But this new part fits perfectly in place of the old one. I'm hoping to be riding this mower for another 10 years now with this new piece installed.I would not attempt tackling this project without:A power drillA socket set that fits into the power drill (extensions with magnetized socket is best)Ratchet for fine tuningPliersJackFlashlight (unless you're outside)Wrench

Worked great for my appication
I would have rated higher except one of the parts required for this assembly was not available from the supplier. The item was rated above average because it was an exact match, shipped quick, but I believe if there is a part that is required to re-assemble (small nylon bearing) it should be added to the assembly. I had to go to another site to find the geared pinion shaft and the nylon bearing. Regardles of the shaft being used for this assembly, all the shafts will use the same nylon bearing. That being said, the part installed and is not a simple swap; is now working as one would expect. This was a part that went on a mower that was OEM'd to SEARS (Craftsman).

Finish Them At The Factory
I had to work on it with a file before installation. It does work, but just not out of the box as received.
