crushing death
Very, very good work. Well done. Death metal in classic sound. I have been fan of Obituary since 1990 and... no dissapointments. They never drop out of thier style and sound. Technically perfect. Better than a couple of their previos records.

Yet another solid album from obituary!
Obituary have been under fire quite often over the last few years mainly due to some fans criticising on their lax use of creative ideas, whilst i personally disagree with people from that camp, it is however hard to deny though that Obituary once again have delivered a quality death metal album with personality and unmistakeably Obituary.Depending on your views with band progression, i'm afraid to say to anyone with a taste for a different Obituary this time round will be sorely dissapointed, "Darkest Day" for more reasons than one sounds very much a continuation from their previous effort "Xecutioners return" one could even go as far as saying that it's a part two which in many ways seems very resasonable. The trademark sludgy thick guitaring is you will be glad to know more present than ever, complimented by John tardy's unique death metal yells, this new release boasts some of the best new Obituary riffs since "Frozen in time" album and certainly less volume of some of the lazy and slow pedestrian paced songs present on Xecutioner. However though as shortcuming this may be, there is absolutely no experimentation going on here whatsoever, more of the same is very fitting to an extent, but i do believe songs like the amazing "lost inside, outside my head and fields of pain" do credit this album up and above most of their previous releases.Their is very little to fault with this latest offering, but at the same time find not to much of that special magic found in classic albums that jumps up and grabs at you either, but although it's clear there won't be a metal revolution with the emergence of "Darkest Day" and it won't delight quite as much as the awesome "Cause of death" but at the end of the day a solid album is a solid album: and that is better than a bad one.Obituary fans should add this to their collection straight away, most probably will, i also recommend this to new fans if slow/heavy doom death metal sounds your cup of tea. Im still delighted that Obituary are still providing their unique brand of Death metal with flavour and character rather than their mindless contempories with endless grunts in a chaotic mess so often found in death metal. My version of Obituary "Darkest day" came with a bonus CD/ROM, not sure if this comes as standard or is a limited edition, anyway 3 live videos and a interview are on their as well.SUMMARY "Darkest Day" is a no risks, no frills album and a job well done.

Fantastic Death!
Great release. Receiving many spins in the car at present. Full on Death Metal as you would expect from the masters. Great live band too. Metal! J Counsell.
