Product Description The series' debut season is presented in it's entirety with this collection of 22 episodes on 6 discs. Star Jennifer Love Hewitt, Aisha Tyler, David Conrad Special Features: Widescreen Format, Commentaries, Deleted Sceens, Featurettes 960 Minutes. .com Ghost Whisperer is not a show for cynics (or anyone who hates everything with the word "whisperer" attached to it). Though half of the show aims to make your flesh creep, the other half works just as hard to make everything warm and fuzzy. Ghosts walk into Melinda Gordon's life the way snappy dames walked into Sam Spade's office, hitting her up for aid with a hard-luck story and a whole lot of strings attached. Her job is to help them untie the emotional knot that's keeping them earthbound--which usually involves, in one way or another, telling a still-living friend or relative how much the dead person loved them. Whether it's a Vietnam vet who never met his son, a standup comedian who committed suicide, a bride who died on her big day, or a poltergeist child, in the end Melinda--assisted by her hunky paramedic husband Jim and vaguely useless best friend Andrea--will find a way to lead them to the light. (Ghost Whisperer is evasive about its theological implications, but Melinda's black-hatted nemesis from the season's end has a distinctly devilish air.) Keeping a foot in both worlds as Melinda is Jennifer Love Hewitt (Party of Five, Garfield), an actress who doesn't seem entirely natural; between her cartoonish physical dimension (the show isn't shy about displaying her bosom), her fake eyelashes, and the seemingly molded contours of her face, she's like a life-sized doll. Unfortunately, this quality lends a similarly plastic feel to her telegenic smile and earnest looks of compassion. The scripts are strictly middle-of-the-road tv fare, with obvious turns of plot and heavy-handed emotional crises, but the special effects conjure some eeriness. Extras include docs on the show's development, the lovely opening credits (based on the art of Maggie Taylor), and the paranormal investigators whose work inspired the show, along with a handful of episode commentaries and deleted scenes. Fans will not feel cheated. --Bret Fetzer

Season 1 and 2 are the best.
Jennifer Love Hewitt has been one of my favorite actors. I enjoy her in this series and the Client List. I have this entire series and believe the first two seasons are the best. The first two seasons are well written.

Really enjoyed the first season
I knew from the first episode that i was going to enjoy this series. I couldnt help but see some similarities to a horror movie or two that she's done in the past. In one episode her house starts flipping out and she gets her caught in the garbage disposal (it has to be cut by her husband) happened to Sarah Michelle Gellar in I Know What You Did Last Summer and a couple other slight things that i noticed (reminded of those movies). Love the fact that she's playing a character like this with a deep and strong devotion to helping those out there with her gift. She does it well considering most folks dont know about her gift besides the people that she's helped, her husband, her best friend/partner at her antique shop and her mom.The only thing i didnt like was the way it ended for one of the characters in the show...i dont want to give away things for those that havent seen it yet. But it left me with some questions and hope they get answered in the 2nd season. Overall an excellent TV show with a pretty good message but its about to get ramped a notch for Melinda in the 2nd season as the evil spirits start gunning for her at a higher rate.I only hope she's able to deal with them and hopefully get some help on the ghost front as well from new characters or something...Great story, actors and message makes for an excellent TV show. I hope its around for years to come. Also a fan of Medium, Supernatural and the like. But this is different from those.

Great on the Second Viewing
Having only watched this series when it was first broadcast, I was pleasantly surprised at how well the production has held up over the past ten years. The highly emotional climax to each episode is carefully crafted through plot and sometimes limited character development. What really helps the momentum is the missing commercials. Since many of the breaks were placed during pivotal scenes, I think we always lost some of the energy that the production was developing. With the interruptions gone, we get a fuller effect as the suspense builds. Some of the story lines can get a little sappy and predictable but that is to be expected of a production that has to take the viewer from introduction to denouement in 45 minutes. Effective use of special effects and outstanding acting carries Ghost Whisperer to wonderful places. On a more personal note, the writers craft, and actors deliver, some powerful and insightful ideas. No matter what your personal philosophy about Life and Death, there are some wonderful thoughts presented here. For those of us who have lost loved ones in real life, the sentiments are very heartening and provide a certain sense of solace. I know it may only be Hollywood but I choose to take my truths where I find them. I hope you enjoy them too.

DVD Set Falls Short for this Much Loved Show - Where's the Music?!!
Don't buy this DVD set expecting to hear the great soundtrack from the show we love. The cover says: "SOME MUSIC HAS BEEN CHANGED FOR THIS HOME ENTERTAINMENT VERSION." That's putting it mildly. From what I can tell, *all* of the popular songs have been changed to generic Musak. On broadcast episodes of Ghost Whisperer, background music/lyrics are important; sometimes they actually define or even divine the entire episode. The deletion of "You Are What You Love" by Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins from "The Vanishing" is a travesty. This profound, yet upbeat song is replaced by a slow, awful ballad that gives absolutely no hint to the joy, the highs and lows, and sweetness that's love - and also is Melinda's gift. The song was the episode's "teaser" - but it was also so much more than that! It set a tone of hope for "The Vanishing." Without "You Are What You Love" the episode is oppressive and painful to watch.CBS made a poor choice stripping the broadcast music. I would've gladly paid a little extra to cover licensing fees.As for the DVD set itself? It's okay. There are extras, deleted scenes and commentary tracks. This is a slim set, too. (Yippee!) But there are no subtitles other than Closed Captioning.I purchased what I thought would be the complete, unedited Ghost Whisperer, Season 1. Instead, I got Ghost Whisperer Lite. It's like waiting all day for a Café Mocha and receiving watered-down decaf instead; "It's the same thing." No, it's not!Maybe CBS will release a restored version of Ghost Whisperer Season 1? I'd buy THAT in a heartbeat!-- Kayla

A Most Touching Series
Due to scheduling circumstances, I was only able to view a few Season One episodes when they actually aired, but impressed enough with the few I saw that I knew I had to obtain the DVD set when it was released. I was amazed at how touching the series is, as well as its strong ability to be suspenseful and creepy, as well as suddenly comical. Jennifer Love Hewitt has always been such a talent, and brings such a believable nature to her character of Melinda Gordon. The camera work and well written scripts easily allow for multiple viewings, to catch new information previously missed. The episodes are also so heartfelt that I found it impossible not to shed tears for all but two episodes of the 24 episodes. It is worth the purchase, not just to rent, but to own. The bonus material is fine, and while they could have had more commentaries (on more episodes), for those they do they're informative and entertaining.I look forward to buying the Season Two disc set (though also, as an actor, I got to work as David Paymer's photo double in the "A Grave Matter" episode...), as well as future DVD "Ghost Whisperer" seasons.

An interesting, 5 Season wonder, worth a watch.
A competitor of the series 'Medium', and very similar it must be said. Aimed at a different audience as 'Medium' has a wife and family (all extremely happy despite the demons suffered by Patricia Arquette) at its core. GW is much lighter, less dark, and to my mind would be enjoyed by a younger audience not merely because of the presence of its main star.In GW Jennifer Love Hewitt is the dubious beneficiary of the physic ability to see and communicate with people who have died, and help them attain 'closure' with people that they have left behind, often with a major pressing question before their untimely death.Ms Hewitt is certainly endowed with a heavenly body which she does show off in most episodes, of course fully clothed, but she has put a lot into her role (she is also a producer of the series) and to my mind proves that she is not just eye candy. She does play the role with conviction and reveals just the right amount of compassion to make her character believable for those who may think the whole thing is total mumbo jumbo.English subtitles on my copy, and it's Region 2.

A ghostly TV series!
This series follows the main character, who is married to a man in this series. The TV series seems to follow the main character played by Jennifer love Hewitt who seems to be able to contact ghosts/spirits through the loved ones of people's she is talking too. It's an interesting idea, but the episodes are more or less the same. The episodes are in the style of a bit hit and miss.It has a lot of supernatural elements in these episodes.

similar to so many others
This is similar to others in the same genre - especially Medium (another talk to the dead series). If you are into this kind of thing then the stories will be very, very familiar.Saying that, it is a slickly produced series. The lead can come off as a little smarmy at times, though she appears to be trying to be concerned and understanding.Overall, if you can overlook the repeated story lines from other series, it's ok and when you get to a story that you haven't seen for a while it can be ok - but if you have watched Medium recently you will have already seen the stories.

Love it!
Excellent quality, bought used but came new. Fabulous series, managed to catch odd ones on sky witness but missed how it all began. Luckily they are re-running it, so hopefully will get to see the rest.

The blooper reel not great but hey you wouldn't watch this all the time. Overall really looking forward to the 2nd series, wondering what's going to happen with the person who has not crossed over yet.... don't want to spoil the 1st series.
