BR-6228Nc - 150Mbps Wireless 11n Broadband Router with 5-Port Switch

This is for the BR-6228nC model, the one with detachable antenna.Received package in two days after shipping. Edimax spent more on shipping than they charged me on Amazon.I like this router and the small size fits well on my desk. I bought it as the price was good, it has open source firmware, detachable antenna and the reviews I read for the equivalent BR-6228nS were good enough for me.I am using it in Station Infrastructure mode to connect by wireless to the Vizio XWR100 Dual-band HD Wireless Internet Router.I you are having problems here are the steps I followed for my network. Perhaps they may help you. You will have to adapt these for your setting.My network connections are:Vizio XWR100 ----> wireless ----> EDIMAX BR-6228nC --> Ethernet ---> LAPTOP (Win XP used for configuration and also has it's own Wifi adapter)Step 1 - Change the IP address of the Edimax.The Vizio router's default factory IP address is 192.168.1.1 (Class C IP address with subnet mask 255.255.255.0) whereas the Edimax's is 192.168.2.1. Since the Edimax will be under the Vizio router's network it's IP has to be changed.Type Edimax's default IP address 192.168.2.1 in the browser address bar and login using default username and password.Click on 'General Setup/LAN'.In the IP address field change to 192.168.1.2.Select 'Disable' for 'DHCP Server'.Click 'Apply'.Now the Edimax's IP address has changed. So to get back to the router configuration screen the Laptop's IP address will have to be changed manually (in later step this manual entry IP address will have to removed). Select the Edimax's 'Local Area Connection' in Control Panel's 'Network Connections'. Right click on it and select 'Properties'. Then in 'General Tab' click on 'Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)' in the item list and then click 'Properties button'. Select 'Use the following IP address' and enter 192.168.1.111 in the IP address field. The subnet mask should be set to 255.255.255.0. Click OK and again OK on the main 'Properties' window. You should now be able to log on to the router using default username and password.Step 2 - Change 'Wireless settings' of Vizio. You may or may not need to do this for your setup.Wireless LAN encryption is offered as WPA with TKIP or WPA2 with AES or TKIP ([...]). Some equipment like the Vizio may have the option of WPA with AES too, which the Edimax does not recognize. My Vizio wireless security encryption was set as WPA with AES, so I set it to WPA2 with AES.Step 3 - Select correct 'Wireless settings' on EdimaxClick on 'General Setup/Wireless'. For Mode select 'Station Infrastructure'. Click 'Site Survey' and select the network you wish to connect to. For Band I selected/changed to 2.4GHz(N), but you can choose not to change this setting. Then click 'Apply'Select 'Security Settings' (below the 'Wireless settings').Under encryption select 'WPA pre-shared key' or other depending on your main router settings.Select the 'WPA2(AES)' radio button or other depending on your main router settings.For Pre-shared Key Format select Passphrase (if key is in ASCII format)Enter the Vizio's Pre-shared Key (also known as Wireless Network Key) in the fieldThen click 'Apply'Step 4 - Under 'General Setup/NAT', select 'Enable Static Routing' then click 'Apply'Step 5 - Remove the manual IP address entered in Step 1 by clicking 'Obtain IP address automatically' and reboot (power OFF then ON) the VIZIO.I obtained connection to the Internet after these steps.

First off, let me say this... I used to be a network admin so know my way around a router. I don't even bother with setup cd's but usually go directly into the native browser-based config utility.I have struggled for 2 days with this thing trying to get it set up as a repeater. I found one walk-through on the Internet that had me set the "Universal Repeater" mode, the security based on the current AP's security, and disable DHCP and turn on static routing. Sometimes it would work. And then it would just stop working. And since DHCP was disabled, I'd have to factory reset it even to configure it and start all over again. I couldn't find any other info whatsoever. Many times when I did link to it (as a repeater), it would be in wireless-G (even though my main router is running B/G/N). And I tried with two computers but many times it would connect yet no Internet, even though I know the signal was going through because I could hit my main router's utility app through the computer connected to the repeater. It just kept losing the Internet and even restarting power never seemed to fix it. I finally gave up. It should not be this difficult to configure a router, so something must be wrong with it. I also upgraded all the firmware before I started.I have verified that it works in client mode ("infrastructure") essentially as a network card for a computer. For $17 I can't complain because its cheaper than most NIC's. However, I didn't originally buy it for this purpose but ended up using it that way to replace another faulty NIC.Someone else said they set it up easily as a repeater, but I had nothing but problems and there is virtually no useful documentation or support out there. Judging by all the other reviews, it probably works fine most of the time as an access point, but if you're buying it as a repeater --- buyer beware.

Received this from Amazon very timely but I never have an issue with Amazon.Regarding the Edimax BR-6228nC:I received the device which is nice and compact, it includes a network cable in the box, 5V 1A wall wart, external antenna that can be replaced if desired, and the usual useless manual and CD that will have old firmware and software that shouldn't be used.I say useless manual because it doesn't give you what the default IP or login/password is but connecting via wire gives me an IP of 192.168.2.100 so router IP is 192.168.2.1. Login box has a nice caption of "Default login is admin/1234" which made me smile and nod in approval.Firmware was 1.09 but once I got connected via Mihir's helpful guide I saw there were 3 newer firmware versions (another competency nod to Edimax for keeping this updated) and I installed 1.18; added a few more Firmware tweaks but nothing revolutionary like transmit power.Overall, everything worked perfectly, it reboots within 20-30 seconds, always responded and never required a reset during the attempts and trials, and lastly is nice and compact so it will fit nicely in the entertainment center to provide network connection to the home theater gear.At this price it is a no-brainer if you need a repeater. And with all the other AP modes, if you can live with 2.4Ghz 150Mbps max speed, this should make for an inexpensive wifi AP for a home.EDIT: This was installed in April 2013. As of Sept 14th, 2013 the device has yet to be rebooted once and continually connects as a repeater day after day without a hiccup. To be fair, there if not much traffic going through the device as it is in a media center for TV, BD Player, etc network access but still! The primary router gets rebooted probably once a month when clients won't connect. I forgot where I installed this guy deep inside the entertainment center as it just works and never needs touching.
